About:

Katherine has 20+ years of experience in the nutrition and dietetics profession, most of which has been in the higher education space. This has involved teaching postgraduate and undergraduate students in a variety of subject areas – her favourites including that of dietary assessment and nutrition counselling. Katherine’s university teaching has also been complimented by research, where her interests revolve around inter-disciplinary and inter-professional education. Her research practice has been most significantly recognised through the completion of a PhD at Sydney University, which focused on the role and integration of nutrition in medical education. Katherine in turn has received teaching and research awards, which are evidence of her dedication to teaching and research, and the application of these in practice. She has also served as an active member on several committees, and has made a significant contribution to the profession through her four-year role as Chair of the national dietetic educators discussion group.

In addition to her training as an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Nutritionist, and therefore her membership of Dietitians Australia, Katherine has also gained additional formal qualifications in obesity, nutrition leadership, research skills, and paediatric nutrition.

In terms of other professional experience, Katherine has worked mainly in the areas of obesity, bariatric (weight loss) surgery, allied health private practice, and food allergy and intolerance. It was her involvement in the food allergy and intolerance area that developed her interest in skin nutrition and health. Katherine’s approach to working as a Dietitian and Nutritionist at the Skin Hospital is one that focuses on personalised nutrition advice and guidance, as well as evidence-based practice. She believes that medicine and nutrition complement each either in maintaining skin health, and in optimising the prevention and management of skin disorders and disease.
