Total Body Mapping at The Skin Hospital

A body map tracks year-on-year changes giving the dermatologist a highly accurate baseline from which to detect changes. Body mapping can help reduce the incidence of skin cancer by detecting changes early. Early detection reduces the severity of skin cancer and quite literally saves lives.

Body mapping in conjunction with your dermatologist reviews provides an easy, reliable means of accurately comparing and tracking lesions, and conducting total body skin exams.

Our body mapping session can be completed in 30 minutes (when done as a stand-alone service). Automated body imaging with integrated body mapping software means it is quicker and more accurate. We provide you with a copy to take home with all your images which means it is easier for you to self-monitor between skin checks.

You can have mole mapping as part of a whole body skin cancer check-up, or we can perform it as a standalone service, for example if your dermatologist has recommended it.

You will be taken to a dedicated private room by one of our trained nurses. A series of photographs are taken of your skin using automated body imaging cameras.

The resulting images provide our dermatologist with an established baseline to refer to at future skin checks.  This allows an accurate comparison of any changes in your skin over time.

Your dermatologist /Nurse will ask you to undress to your underwear (underwear and bra for women). Any photos taken are only able to be viewed by our skin professionals and your dermatologist. The photos reviewed by the dermatologist are close up photos of the moles.

Initial Consultation – The Dermatologist will note any lesions of concern and monitors or suggest treatment for the lesion.

A follow-up appointment is made to repeat these close-up images at intervals appropriate to the nature of the mole, for careful comparison. During this appointment, the dermatologist can check your moles for changes against the baseline photos of previous images.
