Under the Skin – Workshop for Dermatology and Pathology Registrars

Course Outline:The course will contain a high quality histology slide session followed by interactive discussions. Individual microscopes with loan slide sets will be provided.
Course Topics:
  • Inflammatory and neoplastic skin conditions.
  • Keynote Lectures:
    Lecture 1: ‘An approach to inflammatory skin disorders’ – Dr Vicki Howard
    Lecture 2: ‘From dermatoscopy to microscope – How insights from dermatoscopy aid understanding of melanocytic lesions’ – Prof. Simon Clark
    Lecture 3: ‘Clinical application of molecular tests’ – Dr Kym Mina
Course ObjectivesThe course is designed to be relevant to both dermatology and pathology registrars in different years of training and also overseas-trained specialists.

  1. To Provide a realistic approach for registrars to evaluate their levels of knowledge and progress in training and prepare dermatology registrars in their final year for the slide exam.
  2. To assist pathologists with interest in dermatopathology to become more familiar with skin inflammatory and neoplastic conditions.
  3. To assist registrars in developing an effective approach to unknown slides.
  4. To discuss strategies to expand diagnostics and reporting skills.
  5. To expose registrars to more virtual microscopy slides.
