The Ten Commandments for Optimal Wound Closure

Dr Phil Artemi
Speaker:Dr Phillip Artemi
Where:The Founders Wing, The Skin Hospital, 121 Crown St, Darlinghurst 2010
Who should attend:Dermatologists and Dermatology Registrars
Overview:Each year in the developed world there are over 100 million surgical procedures performed either electively, as a result of trauma or for medical conditions such as cutaneous malignancy. A common fear among patients about to undergo Dermatological surgery is scarring. Whilst the immediate goal is to remove the benign or malignant lesion, the resultant scar becomes the focus of the patient.

An inability to ensure aesthetically pleasing scars is often due to a lack of correct instrumentation and perfect surgical technique. Dr Artemi has over 20 years’ experience as a Dermatologic and Mohs Surgeon. His presentation will provide trainees and Dermatologists a road map to achieve optimal wound closure, including instrumentation, anaesthesia, closure planning, suture options, intra-operative techniques and key aspects of after care.

About the Speaker:Dr Phillip Artemi is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and Mohs Surgeon. He is also an International Fellow of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons and European Academy of Dermatologists. He has been the Medical Director at South West Sydney Dermatology since 1998 and is a Visiting Medical Officer at The Skin Hospital Sydney. He also founded the Vitiligo Centre Australia in 2017.

He introduced webinars and the first National Skin School during his tenure as Honorary secretary of College.
