Systematic Treatment For Alopecia Areata

Overview:For the 60 million people worldwide with chronic extensive alopecia areata there is an unmet need for a reliably effective therapy with a benefit-risk ratio that is appropriate for long-term use. An increasing number of case reports and case series indicate that oral JAK inhibitors may help address this significant unmet need.

Prof Sinclair will present:

  • Results of a systematic review of currently available treatments
  • Expert consensus statement on the management of AA
  • First results from PFIZER’s placebo-controlled phase 2a platform study in alopecia areata with a JAK3 inhibitor and a tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2)/JAK1 inhibitor
  • Experience with off label topical and oral tofacitnib
  • How the line in the sand has been drawn with respect to alopecia areata treatment
About the speaker:Professor Rodney Sinclair is the Professor of Dermatology at the University of Melbourne and the Director of Epworth Dermatology. He is Past-President of the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research, the Australasian Hair and Wool Research Society and the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Victoria.

Prof Sinclair is the co-author of the Dermatology section, Oxford Textbook of Medicine, Hair and Scalp diseases, Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology and Bologna’s Textbook Dermatology. He is lead author of Therapeutic Guidelines- Dermatology, Australia and has over 500 research publications.
