Dermatology Research Fellow
Periodically, The Skin Hospital offers up to two Dermatology Research Fellows (“Fellows”) positions to MBBS PGY3 or higher with a keen interest in dermatology research.
Our world-class clinical trials unit conducts cutting edge dermatology trials and has received national recognition. Our Fellows facilitate clinical trials under the supervision of Principal Investigators across our two locations, Darlinghurst and Westmead.
These highly coveted part-time positions to allow Fellows to not only gain experience in clinical trials but also undertake clinical research and dermatology clinic observership. Our Fellows interact with expert dermatologists specializing in various dermatology areas such as Mohs procedure and cosmetic dermatology.
The Skin Hospital also promotes dermatology education and works closely with Australasian College of Dermatologists. The research fellows will have access to dermatology seminars and educational series facilitated by The Skin Hospital.
Eligibility
- MBBS or equivalent
- Completion of at least two years post graduate Residency
- Registration or eligibility for NSW registration
- Cleared criminal record and working with children check
- Demonstrated clinical competency
- Good Clinical Practice certification
- Have a right to work in Australia (Citizen/PR)

How many positions are available each year?
We recruit up to two positions each year. The Dermatology Research Fellows are also supported by Clinical Trial Coordinators.
How many days per week is the role?
The position is 3 days per week.
Are the two days of honorary observership in the clinics paid?
Our Fellows interact with expert dermatologists specializing in various dermatology areas such as Mohs procedure and cosmetic dermatology on a daily basis. Any time you choose to observe on your non-clinical trial days are considered honorary and therefore unpaid. You are not expected to do work on those days. From time to time, we may offer you paid clinics based on the needs of The Skin Hospital.
Will I be located at Darlinghurst or Westmead hospitals?
Whilst you will primarily be based at one of our hospitals, you may be asked to work across both hospitals from time to time. Which hospital will be your primary base will depend on a number of factors including your preference and our requirements.
I am an overseas medical graduate – can I apply?
To be eligible for this role, you must have the right to work in Australia (either as a citizen or permanent residency). We do not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
I’ve not completed my 2 years post-graduate residency – can I still apply?
Unfortunately not – to be eligible for this role, you must have completed your two years post-graduate Residency. We hope to hear from you once you’ve completed your Residency.
I’m conducting some of my own research into aspects of Dermatology. Will I get paid for my research?
Research is one of the three core pillars of The Skin Hospital. We are committed to improving dermatologic treatments through collaborative research partnerships.
We are always looking to partner with those who share our passion for research in dermatology. We occasionally have opportunities to undertake unpaid supervised clinical projects that may be suitable for medical students, Masters students, PhD students and nursing (Masters and PhD) postgraduate degrees.
